Summer School of Engineering Business KLIPPER 2013 was held from 4 to 7 July at Kaluga Branch of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The School was attended by 28 students and graduates from Russian universities (full list of participants), including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Astrakhan State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University (Moscow and Kaluga branch), Moscow Aviation Institute, State University of Management (Moscow), Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University, Kostroma State University, Kostroma State Agricultural Academy, Kuban State University.
The opening of the school took place in the Kaluga Space Museum — the oldest and one of the best space museums in the world. There were excursion for participants and experts. There also six project teams were formed.
On the first day of school project MACHINE 2.0 was presented. This project was developed by student of Bauman University Alexander Semenov, curator of the project — Assistant Professor Pavel Bykov.
Bauman professor of “Economics and Organisation of Production” Department and School supervisor Andrew Kuzmichoff held master class about teambuilding and commercialization MACHINE 2.0. Alexey Moskvich, Department Director of Consulting Group WiseAdvice, talked about entrepreneurship and business valuation. Kirill Kuchkin, Horizon Emerging Technologies CTO and Dean adviser of Moscow University Physics Faculty presented what is a venture business.
The second day began with the premiere of the educational film on lean production «Top American» and master class of Dmitry Baturin, Moscow Locomotive Plant CEO. Next there was a round table discussion on the modern business, which was attended by Director of Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. Noritsugu Uemura, Dmitry Baturin, HSE professor Alexander Karminsky, Kirill Kuchkin, Horizon Emerging Technologies CTO and Dean adviser of Moscow University Physics Faculty, Alexey Moskvich, Department Director of Consulting Group WiseAdvice.
In the morning of the third day participants with the help of experts prepared presentations of school projects. After lunch school participants have a trip to Optina desert — one of the centers of Russian Orthodox Church.
On the fourth day participants held a draw and then presented school projects on MACHINE 2.0 commercialization. The first prize of the jury went to the team For the Better Future (Social entrepreneurship project «Machine 2.0» for the employment of people with disabilities) including: Satenik Movsesian and Sofia Stepanova (Kaluga Branch of Bauman University), Sergei Puchkov (Kostroma State University), Michael Shadrin (Kostroma State Agricultural Academy), they received a cash prize of 30 000 RUR.
Second place and a prize of 30,000 rubles went to the team Later Come Up With The Name (the project — Airbrush for cars using a modified Machine 2.0). Third place was shared by two teams Globe (project Beauty Nail: mobile manicure set) and Shift Expectations (3D meccano) they won T-shirts and baseball caps with the logo of the project CLIP. Fifth place got the team Art Design (project — Glam d`Es: manicure services, manufacturing exclusive mosaics, jewelry), sixth place got the team Movie (project — Caps for Ipad / Ipod / Iphone). All participants received a certificate of school graduation and the winners — evidence of the winner of the school.
School participants appreciated the organization of the school, workshops and expert work of the round table on problems of modern business, trips to the Space Museum, Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors plant, Optina desert. Particularly, they noted the high quality of meals.
In general, the organization and conduct of Russia’s first Summer school of engineering businesses was successful, participants and experts gave good testimonials to it.
